Potential Volunteers to Ethiopia Thank you for your interest in going to Ethiopia with Indigenous Outreach International. We would like to give you some very basic and brief information that may help you begin seeking the Lord’s will as to whether or not you should make such a trip. First of all you should begin spending a good deal of time in prayer before the Lord, asking if you are to take this trip, and, for Him to work in your life to prepare you for the journey. We believe that it is a serious venture that one undertakes in going to Ethiopia with IOI and that the decision should not be made lightly but prayerfully and with the counsel of those in authority over you, taking into account the counsel of scripture. Those who feel led to go to Ethiopia should contact the IOI office at the below number or email address so that a date can be worked toward. You are responsible for obtaining such things as a US Passport, shots, and visas in ample time before the trip. You will also have to be approved by the board of directors of IOI before you may be sent under the name of IOI. If you are under 30 years of age and are still single you will have to obtain a form from IOI and have your parents release you to go by their signatures. You will also need to be approved by your local church authorities before going. The average trip to Ethiopia, lasting 10 days in Ethiopia and 4 days of travel there and back, typically cost between $2,300.00 and $3,000.00 USD so you will need to make plans to provide the funds or raise supporters to help you pay for the trip. This estimate includes all travel, meals and lodging from your point of departure to return. It does not include passports, visas, vaccinations, or “spending money”. IOI requires a half deposit to be paid up to three months in advance of departure so that the tickets can be purchased at the best price. You will be required to obtain travel insurance before taking a trip with IOI which is simply for your own protection and could help prevent thousands of dollars in unexpected cost to you should some unforeseen situation arise. This insurance generally cost about $2.00 per day. Many US policies do not cover travel outside the US. For more information on health and safety in Ethiopia go to the Center for Disease Control website. In committing to go with IOI you will be submitting yourself to the Board of directors and their restrictions on you while you are traveling. You would also be required to be under the leadership of the team leader, and the Ethiopian IOI missionaries that you are with. This pertains to guidance in cultural, spiritual, and any other areas that may arise. A list of do’s and don'ts will be given to you before departure that will help in this area. If, after reading this letter and spending time in prayer, you still feel that the Lord is leading you to go to Ethiopia through IOI please contact us for a full volunteer manual which will give you more details on the above items as well as recommended packing lists, and suggestions while traveling through Europe, etc. We pray that through this venture you might be edified in Christ and the church might be built up in her Lord. |
